Filipino inventor converts used plastics to diesel, kerosene and gasoline

Check out the video on Dateline Philippines on ANC. Experts: Any thoughts on this? For me, first and foremost, it's a great discovery. But secondly, it might be solving two problems (e.g. increasing price of fuel and energy, and proper disposal of plastics) but compounding another (i.e. air pollution), whereas the technologies that are being pursued now are supposedly to go away from fossil fuel dependence. Anyway, since it's two steps forward and one step back, I'm still all for this and I just hope it gets the necessary support in all aspects from government, industries, etc.

Thanks to MC for sharing this link with me.

Cool, must-watch concept short film

It's entitled "Speed of Light / aka / The World's Tiniest Police Chase," by The Theory. Found out about this thru Cult of Mac. They took some simple videos, used a pico (small) projector to project those videos, and took a video of those projections to create this amazing, really cool, and wow-inducing concept short film. Wow indeed.

Conan O'Brien hosts his first Google Hangout

Funny as usual. I like Conan. Right near the end of the video, a feature of Google Hangouts that you might not know yet will be... featured. As for me, I'll be using Hangouts more often now. If you want the full 40+ minute video, check it out below.

Red Bull TV now available on rTV

Awesome extreme sports shows on Red Bull TV. Check it out on rTV at this link:

http://ronjie-tv2.blogspot.com/2012/04/redbull-tv.html

Reminded me of the Darwin Awards, but hey, I can't do these things. Who am I to say anything about these guys? Anyway, I saw one show where this guy rides his motorcycle across the man-made Corinth Canal in Greece, which is 85 meters wide and 85 meters deep. Wow.

Basics of choosing a (digital) camera

This is a very informative video for everyone. Professional photographers and videographers probably know all of this already. What's funny about this video though is the interviewee seems like he woke up on the wrong side of the bed. LOL!

And yet another time-lapse video

This is more similar to the "Everyday" video I showed you yesterday, but this time it's a girl. The video above is her time-lapse video for 5.5 years, posted just last May 2012. But she seems to be continuing the journey until next year as she also has videos on her 4.5th year and 3.5th year, posted on May 2011 and April 2010 and both shown below, respectively. She started taking photos September 2006 apparently. Let's see what she's got around May next year. If you're interested, she has all her photos featured in these videos at her "clickflashwhirr" website.

Time for another time-lapse video!

This one is said to be 12 years in the making, with photos of a newborn Lotte(?) to 12-year-old Lotte in 2 min. 45 sec. It's not as good as the first viral time-lapse ever, "Everyday," featuring this guy Noah. But anyway, it's interesting to see how a baby changes from birth to 12 years!

I'm quite sure I've blogged about the original "Everyday" time-lapse video of Noah, but here it is again. The 3rd video is Homer Simpson's version of "Everyday."

The "magical" new iPad

When Apple markets the iPad, it sells it as this "magical" device that "just works." Simon Pierro shows just what kind of magic you can do with the new iPad in this video. He then showcases its magic by making it pour beer for folks at Hofbraeuhaus, a beer house in Germany, as well as by making it float in front of people just going about their day.

Check out rTV version 2.0: our TV-on-the-internet project

I previously linked to rTV, our TV-on-the-internet project. That link still works, and that site is still being updated. It basically features a back-in-time design with that TV in a wooden cabinet background.

Today, we are launching rTV2 which has a more modern design, and this time a (Wikipedia) search box on the right so that you can look up stuff while watching your favorite rTV shows. I thought this is cool because, for me while I'm watching tech news and commentary shows, they'd often talk about something or someone I don't know anything about. So I have to pause the video (or switch away from it and just keep listening to the audio) to make a search in another window and what not. So now, you can make searches as you watch.

Together with this rTV2 launch, we are announcing that we now have a total of over 50 channels available for viewing. That includes new channels like Red Bull TV which features extreme sports shows, TEDx Talks, and Flippish which is like a Filipino teen/tween live talk show. Over time, we'll continue adding channels to make rTV truly as the one-stop-shop for TV on the internet.

Additionally in rTV2, the channels have been refreshed to ensure that the proper video feeds are showing. And, the channels each get their own "Channel Number", although you can just simply navigate using the Next and Previous Channel buttons. Or check out the Categories.

Check out rTV2 today at http://ronjie-tv2.blogspot.com! And don't forget to check out the RAW TV and R2 channels, which feature all the videos we have showcased and soon to be showcased on RAW (this blog).

Stop the Hate!

I've been seeing a lot of hate in the world, lately. Well, particularly on the internet. Not enough to bring us all down, but it's there. To deal with hate, you shouldn't hate back though or the hate grows. Instead, there's plenty of things that can be done. My favorite is ignoring the hate. If I see hate stuff on the internet, I don't like to those stuff. Or, just deal with them politely. Or just keep doing your own positive thing for this world and don't stop. If anything, haters thrive on attention. So they post stuff on the internet where they might have an audience. Oh my, now I'm thinking I should consider quitting the internet. But then there's haters in real life, too, so... But hey, this is one cool idea. Expose the hate (not the haters), and don't point a judgmental finger on them (i.e. don't hate them back!). Instead, how about thank them with a musical number! Check out this rather well-produced Musical Thank You Note to the Racists, Misogynists, and Scumbags of the Internet.

I like Coke but I don't see myself going this crazy over free Coke.

Watch this ad by Coke, featuring internet celebrities iJustine and Josh TheComputerNerd01. The idea is great and I like Coke. But I don't see myself going this crazy over free Coke.

Insane Robot Dance

This video is old but man, I see it again today, and it is still amazes me. Wait to watch the 2nd contestant in this video, the guy in orange. Steve Jobs actually featured this video in a demo he made at some conference back in 2005 (or earlier). Insane!

Download some yummy wallpapers for free

These are actually meant for the iPad 3rd generation's retina display (2048-by-1536 pixels), but these should work just fine on any other lower resolution displays (i.e. most things). Check it out at the appropriately named 2048px.com.

Found out about this through the Cult of Mac.

Cool, all-wood chapel

Check out the photos at The Cool Hunter. There's also a time-lapse video of the construction of the chapel. (Note: An ad will display first; you can skip the ad after 5 seconds.) Can anyone tell me the title and original composer of the background song in this video?

Thanks to my good friend RV for sharing this link!

Former PBA pro basketball players - where are they now?

This is a very interesting read, most especially for me who was a PBA fan myself, and coming from a basketball-loving family. Check it out: http://goo.gl/L4zt0.

Wanna play some Good Old Games for free?

Sign up at GOG.com, and get 7 good old (Windows/PC) games for free. For most other good old games, prices start from around US$6 anywhere in the world, and are all DRM-free (i.e. pay once, download and use anywhere). You can also create wishlists for games, and gift and receive games. My personal favorite from among them good ole games? SIM CITY 2000. Yeah man. But I hope they can port soon to the Mac or to the web!

Thanks to my buddy RB for the link!

KFC's Double Down sandwich: four possible future variations

Have you tried KFC's double down sandwich, which is basically like an inverted sandwich, whereas instead of bread sandwiching meat, it's the meat that's doing the sandwiching? Yummy, ain't it! Anyway, here's an article featuring four possible future variations of the Double Down, entitled "KFC Double Down: reinvented by four Toronto chefs."

Creative ways to use Google Translate

Aside from translating, I can use Google Translate to type in Japanese, Chinese, or other non-Latin-based characters. No need for system capability in your operating system (Windows or Mac). But more importantly, I use Google Translate to listen to the correct pronunciation of phrases in foreign languages. Like, copy this text, and paste inside Google Translate, select "Japanese" in the "from" language, then click the small speaker icon on the lower right of the text box:

こんにちは!ロンジドットコムです。あなたとはじめまして。よろしくお願いします。

One part there is supposed to say "RONJIE.COM," but if you translate to English, well RONJIE is just not in the dictionary just yet. Instead, it interprets it as some funny word.

Anyway, I learned this from Adam Port (Musician/Band) on Facebook, through my friend VC. Copy this text:

pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk

Paste it inside Google Translate. Pick German as the 'from' language. Then, press the 'Listen' (speaker icon) button.

Cool, right? Now how about being creative with Google Translate yourself?

A tribute video to the Beastie Boys' Adam "MCA" Yauch

Back in 1997, I remember being so excited about this joint concert in Manila by the Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth, and the Beastie Boys, with the Eraserheads as front act. It was probably the musical highlight of my youth. Anyway, just months ago, one of the Beastie Boys, Adam Yauch, a.k.a. "MCA", passed away after a 3-year battle with throat cancer. Gulp (no pun intended). That's 3 people who have some influence on me who have passed away due to cancer (together with Francis M, and Steve Jobs). Anyways, here's a tribute video made by one James Winters together with his wife, kids, and a nephew, remaking a Beastie Boys' music video of one of their hit songs from the early 90's, "Sabotage."

If you're too young or too old (or too uncool) to have seen the original Sabotage music video, here it is:

From Wikipedia:
(He was also a) songwriter, film director, and human rights activist... and sometimes worked under the pseudonym Nathanial Hörnblowér. Yauch (also) founded Oscilloscope Laboratories, an independent film production and distribution company based in New York City. A Buddhist, he was involved in the Tibetan independence movement and organized the Tibetan Freedom Concert.
That tribute video by James Winters is truly a fitting one.

The Bourne Legacy - Official Theatrical Trailer #1 : OMG I wanna watch this so bad.

It helps though that a lot of footage of this film is in Metro Manila. I'm curious as to how they portrayed Manila. Like most locations, there's good and bad places, but I doubt though that I would complain like other people did for The Avengers.

Trolling 101 (i.e. the act of pissing someone off on the internet)

WARNING: Rated PG-18.

This guy replies to ads posted on the internet and the outcome is really funny! Read this one where he pretends to be a Japanese named Chan who replies to someone needing some translation services. Almost no Japanese is named Chan so that should have given the joke away (although it could have been, say a Chinese who knows how to speak Japanese). But obviously the guy who needed the translation didn't know that!

Here's another really funny one where he replies to someone looking for disguised weapons on the internet. There's more on the guy's website called "E-mails from an a**hole," at www.dontevenreply.com, but I suggest you start with the site's top-rated posts.

A Microsoft vision of the future... like, 7 years from now?

Apparently made by a Hong Kong subsidiary of Microsoft? Anyway, let's check back in on this vision, 7 years from now. I think that 2019 would be too late already for these kinds of technologies to emerge though, but people can be very wrong.
